2009-01-13: Alcoa Inc provided its fourth quarter 2008 results, reporting a loss of $929m, or $1.16 per share, including restructuring, impairment, and other special charges of $708m or $0.88 per share. Results were driven by a 35% decline in aluminum prices in the quarter, (a 56% decline from July) and a sharp drop in demand, particularly from the automotive, commercial transportation and building and construction sectors. Net income for the fourth quarter 2008 was a loss of $1.19bn or $1.49 per share, which includes restructuring, impairment and other special charges of $920m ($212m is included in discontinued operations) or $1.15 per share, 80% of which is non-cash. Revenues for the fourth quarter 2008 were $5.7bn, down from $7bn in the third quarter 2008 and $6.1bn in the fourth quarter 2007 after excluding divested businesses. Cash from operations in the fourth quarter 2008 was $608m.
